Tricks to keeping your heart young and healthy

Get Up and Move: According to a recent study, sitting for more than 10.5 hours a day is associated with an increased risk of heart failure or death from cardiovascular diseases. This applies even to individuals who adhere to the recommended 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week. Experts note that excessive sitting or lying down can negatively impact heart health, even among active and athletic individuals.

A study published in November 2023 in the European Heart Journal suggests that for cardiovascular health, even sleeping is better than sitting. Prolonged sitting has been labeled as the “new smoking” due to its negative health consequences, primarily because of the effects of inactivity on reducing blood flow. Thus, it’s advised to stand up from your desk every 20 minutes and take short walks during work or even perform household chores.
