If you can’t sleep at night, what should you not do?
Colin Espie, Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Oxford: “When I’m not sleeping well, I usually get out of bed and get back in to reset the system. Usually, the reason is that my mind is preoccupied with something. I think this is true for most people.”
Dr. Ellie Heer points out that some illnesses can affect insomnia: “I’m not saying there’s necessarily a specific type of person as an example for insomnia, but we know that people with chronic illness or chronic pain are more likely to have trouble with sleep. We know that insomnia often co-occurs with other disorders like anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.”
