First Car Exhibition After lifting of the Import Ban

After the ban on importing non-Chinese cars was lifted, the International Car Exhibition is being held.

Until now, the local market was exclusively dominated by domestically produced cars and low-cost Chinese cars assembled here. In 2018, after the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal and the re imposition of U.S. sanctions by then-President Donald Trump, the country banned car imports.

Officials stated that this move was to strengthen domestic production and prevent the outflow of hard-earned foreign currency for imported goods. However, critics accuse the powerful state-owned car manufacturers of seeking to establish a monopoly and avoid competition with international giants. For car enthusiasts, these shows are also about the community and networking. They offer a chance to connect with like-minded individuals, join clubs, or even strike up conversations with the engineers behind the cars.
