A charming Swede who breaks records as easily as drinking water
According to Daniel Wessfeldt, Duplantis’s manager, he earns $100,000 just for appearing at each event, not including cash bonuses. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that only Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter, commanded a higher appearance fee of $250,000 per event. Wessfeldt told Aftonbladet that Duplantis’s fame has reached a level where even people with no interest in sports recognize him.
His manager also noted that Duplantis was even invited as a guest to the Ballon d’Or football ceremony. Beyond that, Duplantis receives substantial payments from organizers for each world record. For example, he earned the equivalent of $47,000 in cash bonuses for the record he set at an event in China. At world championships, the International Athletics Federation pays $95,000 for each record.
