thalassotherapy Explained

Thalassotherapy is an alternative therapy that harnesses the soothing properties of the sea. The term comes from the Greek word “thalassa,” which means ocean. Thalassotherapy dates back to the 19th century, although people have bathed in the sea for its health benefits for much longer than this.

Today, thalassotherapy is one of the treatments people can receive in coastal spas and wellness clinics. The therapy takes different forms and can involve a combination of bathing, exercising, and using marine products, such as sea mud.

Disclaimer: By definition, Thalassotherapy is the use of sea water and all the elements of the marine environment (seaweed, mud, sand, air, marine climate, etc.) for therapeutic purposes. It is always practised in a seaside environment in a specialized centre with medical monitoring. Like blood plasma, seawater contains up to 92 minerals and trace elements that are beneficial to our health. Our body has the capacity to absorb all of these natural elements because its mineral structure is very similar to the structure of seawater: this is called the remineralization of the body.
